The analytics notice

BioBase asks before it collects any analytics. A notice titled Usage data and masked replays appears at the top of the window. Its disclosure reads:
Help improve BioBase by sharing usage data and masked session replays. Scientific content, chats and files are never included.
Usage data covers feature usage, performance measurements and crash categories. Events and replays carry an identifier for your BioBase installation, and PostHog, the analytics provider, also receives your IP address. Credentials are never included either.
  • To keep collection off, select Opt out.
  • To share, select Got it. Closing the notice also counts as sharing.
Nothing is sent until you choose. BioBase keeps a saved choice when it restarts, and if you opted out before, it keeps that choice and skips the notice. Privacy policy in the notice opens the Infera privacy policy.

Change your choice

To change your choice later, go to Settings, Privacy & Telemetry, and turn Share usage data and masked replays on or off. Turning it off takes effect at once: BioBase stops collecting and discards anything it hasn’t sent. If the pane reads “This change wasn’t saved. Try again.”, BioBase might not keep the new choice after a restart; select Retry to save it. If it reads “This change wasn’t saved because the setting changed too many times. Restart the app, then try again.”, restart BioBase, then try again; this applies only to turning sharing on.

What a masked replay records

A replay records the layout and size of the BioBase window, and your pointer movements, clicks and scrolling. Every piece of text and every input is replaced with [masked]. Images, video, audio, drawings, terminals, editors and embedded pages are left out of the recording.

When collection stops

Collection runs only while you’re signed in to Infera. It pauses across the whole app while any protected session is open, including a workspace with Sync off; see Backup and sync. Opting out stops every kind of collection, replay included.
