# The terminal

> A terminal in the same project folder as the Data Agent, with split panes and voice dictation.

## Open a terminal

Select **New Terminal** in the tab bar's new-tab menu, or press Ctrl+T (Cmd+T on Mac). The terminal opens in the project folder.

## Split panes

| Close active pane | Ctrl+W | Cmd+W |

To change a shortcut, go to Settings, **Shortcuts**.

## Rendering problems

If terminal text draws incorrectly, go to Settings, **Terminal**, **GPU Acceleration** and select **Off**. **Auto**, the default, falls back to the slower renderer on graphics hardware that doesn't support the fast one.

## Dictation

Turn dictation on in Settings, **Voice**, **Enable Voice Dictation**, and download a speech model there. Then press Ctrl+E (Cmd+E on Mac) with a terminal, the editor, or the Data Agent composer focused. Under **Dictation Mode**, **Toggle** starts on the first press and stops on the second; **Hold** dictates while you hold the keys.

Without a speech model, BioBase shows "No speech model selected. Download one in Settings > Voice."
