# Uninstall BioBase

> Remove BioBase from Windows, macOS or Linux, and what stays on this device afterward.

Uninstalling doesn't remove anything from Infera Cloud. A workspace with [backup](/your-data/backup-and-sync) turned on keeps its cloud copy in your Infera account afterward. To remove that copy, do it first, while BioBase is still installed, signed in and online:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Turn backup off">
    Open the workspace, select **Show backup and sync**, and turn off **Back up this folder**. Repeat for each workspace whose cloud copy you want removed.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm the cloud copy is gone">
    If the removal doesn't go through, the workspace shows "Infera Cloud has not yet cleared this workspace. BioBase keeps everything here and will try again when the workspace is next opened." Reconnect, then open the workspace again, which retries the removal. Repeat until the message no longer appears.
  </Step>
</Steps>

BioBase retries the removal only when the workspace is opened on this device. If you sign out, uninstall or delete your BioBase profile while that message still appears, the cloud copy stays in your account. To have Infera remove it, email [hello@infera.bio](mailto:hello@infera.bio) from your account's address and say which workspace it is.

Then sign out: go to Settings, **Data Agent**, the **Account** panel, then **Sign out**. Signing out removes the sign-in from this device and asks Infera to end its access. To end a device's access from the web, revoke BioBase under **Connected apps** in the Infera web app. Uninstalling alone doesn't.

Uninstalling never touches your project folders. Every file BioBase wrote into a project stays where it is.

    The uninstaller removes the BioBase install folder, the Start menu entry and the desktop shortcut. It leaves your BioBase profile in place, so a later reinstall opens with the same settings:

    | Folder | Contents |
    | - | - |
    | `%APPDATA%\BioBase` | Settings, local workspace history and other data BioBase keeps on this device |
    | `%LOCALAPPDATA%\BioBase` | Files BioBase recreates when needed |

    To remove everything, delete both folders after uninstalling.

    Quit BioBase, then drag **BioBase** from **Applications** to the Trash.

    These stay until you delete them:

    | Location | Contents |
    | - | - |
    | `~/Library/Application Support/BioBase` | Settings, local workspace history and other data BioBase keeps on this device |
    | `~/Library/Caches/BioBase` | Files BioBase recreates when needed |
    | Your login keychain | A BioBase entry. Remove it in Keychain Access |

    To open the `Library` folder in Finder, select **Go**, then **Go to Folder**, and type `~/Library`.

    The AppImage is a single file and nothing is installed system-wide. To remove BioBase, quit it and delete the AppImage. If you extracted it, also delete the `squashfs-root` folder.

    These stay until you delete them:

    | Location | Contents |
    | - | - |
    | `~/.config/BioBase` | Settings, local workspace history and other data BioBase keeps on this device |
    | `~/.cache/BioBase` | Files BioBase recreates when needed |
    | Your desktop keyring | A BioBase entry. Remove it with your keyring manager |

    If you set `XDG_CONFIG_HOME` or `XDG_CACHE_HOME`, the first two folders are under those locations instead.
