## Check the download

Each address below describes the newest published build for one download. Open it in a browser and read `version` and `sha256`.

| Download | Address |
| - | - |
| Windows | [https://app.infera.bio/api/downloads/biobase/windows/meta](https://app.infera.bio/api/downloads/biobase/windows/meta) |
| macOS, Apple silicon | [https://app.infera.bio/api/downloads/biobase/macos/arm64/meta](https://app.infera.bio/api/downloads/biobase/macos/arm64/meta) |
| macOS, Intel | [https://app.infera.bio/api/downloads/biobase/macos/x64/meta](https://app.infera.bio/api/downloads/biobase/macos/x64/meta) |
| Linux | [https://app.infera.bio/api/downloads/biobase/linux/x64/meta](https://app.infera.bio/api/downloads/biobase/linux/x64/meta) |

First check that `version` matches the version in your filename: `BioBase-0.1.1096-win-x64.exe` is version `0.1.1096`. If they differ, a newer build was published while you were downloading. Download again and reread the address, so you compare the file against its own hash.

Then hash the file, using its exact filename:

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Windows">
    Open the folder that holds the download, select the address bar, type `powershell`, and press Enter. Then run:

    ```powershell theme={null}
    (Get-FileHash .\BioBase-0.1.1096-win-x64.exe).Hash
    ```
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="macOS">
    In Terminal, from the folder that holds the download:

    ```bash theme={null}
    shasum -a 256 BioBase-0.1.1096-mac-arm64.dmg
    ```

    The Intel disk image is `BioBase-<version>-mac-x64.dmg`.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Linux">
    ```bash theme={null}
    sha256sum BioBase-0.1.1096-linux-x86_64.AppImage
    ```
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

The two values must match; letter case doesn't matter. If they differ while the versions agree, don't open the file. Delete it, download it again, and email [hello@infera.bio](mailto:hello@infera.bio) if the second download also differs.

## Updates

BioBase checks for a new version when it starts and periodically after that, and downloads it in the background. When the download finishes, a notice reads **BioBase \[version] is ready**.

* **Windows and Linux:** select **Restart to update** in the notice, or in Settings under **General**, **Software update**. BioBase installs the update and reopens. If you select **Later**, the update installs the next time you quit BioBase.
* **macOS:** the update installs when you quit BioBase.

To check for a new version yourself, go to Settings, **General**, and select **Check for updates**.

## If a download is refused

A refused download shows one of two messages:

* "The BioBase installer is temporarily unavailable. Try again in a moment." Wait and retry.
* "BioBase for Windows downloads are paused until a signed release is published. Trying again does not help. Contact Infera support if you need BioBase on Windows before then." While Windows downloads are paused, the **Desktop Apps** card shows "Paused until a signed release is published" under **Windows**, with no download button. An installed copy keeps running on its current version, and Settings under **General** reads "This build's Windows update channel is closed until a signed release is published. Contact Infera support if you need to update now." To reach support, email [hello@infera.bio](mailto:hello@infera.bio). The macOS and Linux downloads are not affected.

Next, [sign in](/getting-started/sign-in) to connect BioBase to your Infera account. To remove BioBase later, see [Uninstall](/getting-started/uninstall).
